Guinea Pig Grooming
I have owned guinea pigs for over 30 years, and volunteered for a guinea pig rescue for 5 years.
Your guinea pig will be brushed and combed to remove any tangles, minor matting and the majority of any dead coat. Your guinea pig will then be bathed with a safe and appropriate shampoo for guinea pigs. Your guinea pig will then be dried using a low heat and velocity dryer. If your guinea pig requires any hair trimming I am happy to do this too. This service also includes nail trimming and ear cleaning.
Nail trimming is an important part of your guinea pigs grooming routine to ensure that your pet is comfortable walking. Overgrown nails can grow at peculiar angles resulting in your guinea pig adjusting its foot placing and therefore putting pressure on other parts of the foot and leg. Severe overgrown nails can also grow into your guinea pigs foot pads causing severe pain. **Nail Trimming is carried out as part of a regular groom. Some nails do need more regular trimming so I do offer nail trimming without a full groom.
Ear Cleaning guinea pigs love rummage through hay and do accumulate some dirt in their ears. Cleaning your guinea pigs ears on a regular basis ensures any changes can be spotted and any treatments needed can be done promptly. **Ear cleaning is carried out as part of a regular groom. However, I also offer ear cleaning without a full groom.
Grease Gland Cleaning guinea pigs have a gland where you would expect their tail to be. You can see it mostly on boars (males), but some sows (females) too. They use it to mark their territory with their scent. However, it can get very messy and sticky and collect hair and debris. **Grease gland cleaning is carried out as part of a regular groom. However, I also offer grease gland cleaning without a full groom.
I offer a one-to-one service (unless the pets are from the same family) from my grooming room in our family home, in Willesborough, Ashford, Kent.
